It’s not entirely “waterproof”, but it is somewhat waterprooc. I tested it as shower holder for shampoo, didn’t hold. But if you just use it for towel next to the shower then it does holds tightly. As for holding sponge would work too since it’s not in touch with the water all the time. So yes it does still work like in the ads video.
